When heading to Thailand, having travel insurance that includes COVID-19 coverage may not be as big of a worry or a must-do as before. Still, it’s a smart move to look out for your health and finances. COVID-19 cases have gone down a lot, and Thailand has loosened up on entry rules and travel guidelines. But since the pandemic can be unpredictable, and there might be unexpected medical costs, having comprehensive travel insurance is a good idea. LUMA Asia Pass has coverage for COVID-19.
While travel insurance for Thailand is not mandatory, we highly suggest having comprehensive medical insurance for Thailand, even if you are healthy and young. There are a number of reasons for this:
A popular transport in Thailand is motorbikes. Yet, a significant number of tourists fail to follow regulations when using a motorbike as a driver or passenger and accidents occur too often. Having a travel insurance in Thailand that covers for motorbike accidents is crucial to ensure protection in case of need. For more information about how much such an accident could cost, read our blog on the importance of travel insurance for motorbike accidents in Thailand.
The cost of travel insurance for Thailand will vary depending on two main factors, the length of your trip and the type of coverage you choose. However, you can generally expect to pay around $7 per day for a quality travel insurance Thailand policy.
When selecting travel insurance for Thailand, go for a plan that provides thorough coverage customized to your specific travel requirements. Steer clear of purchasing a plan with unnecessary benefits that could unnecessarily increase the cost. Concentrate on essential factors like coverage, pricing, hospital network, and customer service.
Read our blog about this and find the best travel insurance plan for your trip to Thailand.
LUMA Asia Pass Travel Insurance Policy does not cover:
Please note: This travel policy is valid for leisure and administrative business travel only and does not cover travel to seek medical treatment in Thailand.

For the detailed list of exclusions, please read LUMA Asia Pass Travel Insurance Policy Wording.
Medicare is a health insurance program by the government for people aged 65 or older and those with specific disabilities. Keep in mind, though, that Medicare doesn’t cover medical costs outside the United States and its territories. So, if U.S. citizens go to Thailand, Medicare won’t pay for their medical expenses. Read more in detail on the use of Medicare in Thailand on our blog.
Right here! You can purchase LUMA Asia Pass which covers Thailand and also motorbike accidents which is a must have for Thailand.
You should ideally be purchasing travel insurance as soon as your tickets are booked. A minimum should be 24 hours before your departure.
Yes! LUMA Travel Insurance covers for food poisoning. Both Inpatient and Outpatient bills can be claimed.
Unfortunately, most travel insurance needs to be purchased before your trip begins, so it wouldn’t cover events happening in Thailand if you were already in the country at the moment of purchase. This is because insurance can’t cover things that were already foreseeable when you bought the policy.
There is one exception: LUMA Asia Pass offers regional coverage. If you buy our plan and enter another covered country (check the countries listed in the zone of coverage or your plan), your coverage would activate upon arrival in that new destination. Then if you enter Thailand again, you’d be covered in Thailand as long as it’s within the period of validity of your travel policy.
Travel Insurance from the USA to Thailand should cover flight delays, lost baggage, and medical emergency & treatment during your stay in Thailand. Your trip will likely involve multiple connecting flights and dealing with different time zones. When embarking on such a lengthy trip, having peace of mind is crucial. That’s where travel insurance for your Thailand trip comes in, acting as your safety net to keep you protected throughout your journey.
Traveling from the USA to Thailand isn’t a quick and simple journey, so it’s highly advisable to get travel insurance for your trip.
In the past, during the Covid-19 pandemic, travelers entering Thailand had to register through a mandatory online platform called Thailand Pass. This system streamlined the entry process by collecting travel and health information and issuing a QR code that served as an entry permit.
Today, there is no more Thailand Pass registration required to enter the country.
LUMA was a forerunner in this area, launching the first travel insurance plan specifically designed to meet the entry requirements mandated by Thai immigration. This initial plan was called “LUMA Thailand Pass” and insured by Tune Protect. However, as travel restrictions have eased, LUMA has proactively revamped its travel insurance offerings to better cater to the current needs of travelers visiting Thailand.
