I appreciated the ease of opening a membership with Luma while based in Bangkok. It covered all major hospitals in Bangkok, and it was convenient that they paid directly to the hospitals in advance. If there were issues regarding certain medical coverage, LUMA was quick to contact me to understand my medical history. When I had questions about traveling abroad and using LUMA coverage (i.e. in the USA), they gave me great alternative options to supplement their emergency coverage. I did a lot of background research on ex-pat healthcare options for Asia, and I am glad I chose LUMA Asia Care 2.

After looking at many other companies, I decided to use Luma. Excellent product options and value for money. The staff explained my product options to me and were always helpful. Answering my questions promptly. The overall service was excellent.

What is not covered by my travel insurance policy?

Our travel insurance policies do not typically cover the following:

  • Pre-existing medical conditions, including illnesses contracted before the start of the policy
  • Planned and elective treatments
  • Illnesses contracted before the start of the policy
  • War, terrorism, intentional self-inflicted injuries, psychiatric disorders
  • Participation in extreme sports, rock climbing, hazardous work
  • Trekking above 5,000 meters altitude
  • Scuba diving

Details of what is not insured can be found in the exclusions sections of the
travel insurance policy.

Does this policy cover pre-planned medical treatment in Thailand?

Many cosmetic treatments are cheaper in Thailand. This has made medical tourism popular in the country. However, our travel insurance does not cover these treatments. It only covers you for unforeseen medical expenses.

In case of emergency, who can I contact?

For medical emergencies, please go directly to the nearest hospital or call an ambulance. If you are a victim of crime, then contact the local police.

Once you are safe or receiving treatment, call LUMA at +6624943600.

Is travel insurance mandatory?

Travel insurance is not mandatory in most countries. However, there are some exceptions, including:

  • Moldova
  • Nepal
  • Israel
  • Iran
  • Cuba

You must also buy travel insurance coverage worth up to 30,000 EUR to qualify for a Schengen visa.

Our travel insurance from Thailand covers worldwide destinations. However, there are a few exceptions, including:

  • Afghanistan
  • Azerbaijan

  • Lebanon
  • Libya
  • Nicaragua
  • North Korea
  • Palestine

Requirements change frequently, so you should contact your destination country’s embassy to check whether travel insurance is mandatory.

However, we strongly recommend you have suitable travel insurance coverage even if it is not mandatory in the country you travel to.

That’s because your health insurance and other domestic policies might not cover you for medical expenses or losses incurred abroad.

Do I need Schengen Visa Insurance?

What is the best travel insurance for travelers from Thailand?

The best travel insurance for travelers departing Thailand offers adequate protection for various travel and medical emergencies.

The best travel insurance for travelers from Thailand will also provide English-speaking medical and travel support, helping and advising you in an emergency.

LUMA offers several plan options to satisfy most budget and coverage requirements.

What should travel insurance for Thailand cover?

✅  Medical expenses: If you fall ill or get injured during your trip, you’ll have to pay medical expenses. It’s important to ensure you are insured for hospitalization and outpatient care.

✅  Emergency evacuation and repatriation: Some countries or areas may be unable to provide suitable care if you are injured or ill. Your travel insurance should cover evacuation to a nearby facility in full. It should also cover you if you need specialist care during the journey home.

✅  Trip cancellation: What if you get seriously ill before you travel and have to cancel your trip? If unforeseen events like this arise, your Thailand travel insurance should reimburse your pre-paid expenses.

✅  Trip interruption: Similarly, your Thailand travel insurance should also cover you if you are abroad and have to cut your trip short due to things like:

  • Illness
  • Losing a loved one
  • A natural disaster

Unforeseen circumstances leading to flight delays of more than 6 hours or missing a connecting flight should also be insured.

✅  Lost baggage: Pickpocketing and bag theft are relatively common in some parts of the world—and losing possessions during transportation can happen anywhere. Therefore, lost baggage cover is critical.

How much does travel insurance from Thailand cost?

The cost of travel insurance in Thailand varies based on your:

  • The country you are traveling to
  • Duration of travel
  • Level of cover chosen
  • The number of travelers covered by your policy

At LUMA, for example, a one-week trip for a single person departing from Thailand and traveling to Vietnam can cost between $16 (550 THB) and $54 (1855 THB), depending on the plan chosen.
