I appreciated the ease of opening a membership with Luma while based in Bangkok. It covered all major hospitals in Bangkok, and it was convenient that they paid directly to the hospitals in advance. If there were issues regarding certain medical coverage, LUMA was quick to contact me to understand my medical history. When I had questions about traveling abroad and using LUMA coverage (i.e. in the USA), they gave me great alternative options to supplement their emergency coverage. I did a lot of background research on ex-pat healthcare options for Asia, and I am glad I chose LUMA Asia Care 2.

Great insurance company, I recommend it to everyone! I had to use it in Thailand, Phuket in a Bangkok hospital, I didn’t experience any problems with insurance, Luma covered all the visits, for which I am very grateful to them. You are cool! I want to say special thanks to Savarin Nakchu, who was in touch even after the sale of insurance and helped with solving issues. If we return to Thailand, we will definitely take Luma as a reliable insurance company.

I concluded my contract with LUMA online and felt very well looked after! Everything went quickly and smoothly! I haven't needed you for a hospital stay, but I prefer that 😉 If the inpatient admission was just as excellent as it was when all my questions were answered, then I would have made the right decision to go to LUMA!

Luma Health Insurance is the best ever for the insurers with its generous help and its better services. I really like for their alternative way for payment process if online payment is not available for the applicants with some reason. Therefore, I strongly recommended to Luma Health Insurance.

Having limited experience with health insurance, my wife and I received excellent prompt service with everything clearly explained to us by Khun Nina at Luma. The Falcon Insurance policy offered us affordable premiums with a range of deductibles to manage the cost within our budget. Compared to other quotes that we received for expat health insurance policies, this was by far the most competitive.

Frequently Asked Questions about Health Insurance in Thailand

How much does health insurance in Thailand cost?

Health insurance in Thailand can cost from a few thousand Baht for the most basic health coverage, to over 200,000 THB for the most comprehensive medical insurance. The cost of health insurance in Thailand varies depending on several factors, including your age, the type of coverage you choose, and the insurance company you select. LUMA offers diverse health insurance plans for expats and local residents in Thailand, suiting different lifestyles and budgets.

What are the costs of medical treatments in Thailand?

The cost of medical treatment in Thailand can vary a lot based on what you need and which hospital you choose, ranging from a few hundred to millions of Thai Baht. If you need to stay in the hospital for several nights, the costs can add up.

Here are the estimated prices for a standard room per night in public and private hospitals in different cities across Thailand:

– Bangkok: 4,000 – 10,000 THB (Room rate with Meal + hospital fees)
– Phuket: 5,000 – 8,000 THB (Room rate with Meal + hospital fees)
– Chiang Mai: 4,000 – 7,000 THB (Room rate with Meal + hospital fees)
– Chonburi (Pattaya): 2,500 – 5,000 THB (Room rate with Meal + hospital fees)
– Nonthaburi: 5,400 – 8,450 THB (Room rate with Meal + hospital fees)
– Krabi: 3,000 – 4,000 THB (Room rate with Meal + hospital fees)

Please Note that these are base costs for standard rooms, and opting for a VIP suite will incur higher charges. Additionally, these figures cover hospitalization only; any specific medical treatments for each patient will involve additional costs.

Here are some costs of medical treatments in case of accidents or illness:

– Accident that requires a plaster or cast: will cost approximately 1,500 – 8,000 THB. for an OPD (Outpatient Department) treatment.

– Bacterial diarrhea: will cost approximately 1,500 – 3,000 THB for OPD treatment, or 20,000 – 90,000 THB for IPD (Inpatient Department) treatment.

– Dengue fever: will cost approximately 1,500 and 3,000 THB for OPD treatment, or between 35,000 and 150,000 THB for IPD treatment.

– Evacuation: will cost approximately 90,000 and 300,000 THB. This cost can go up to a million THB or more depending on your medical condition, the severity of your condition, the medical professionals needed and the special equipment needed.

– Minor stitches: will cost approximately 500 and 8,000 THB for OPD treatment. Please note that the cost of treatment may vary depending on the severity of the accident.

– Major surgeries: will cost approximately 200,000 and 1,000,000 THB or more. This is for IPD treatment. Please note that the cost of treatment may vary depending on the severity of the accident.

Please note that these are just general costs based on private hospitals in Thailand. The actual cost of your treatment will vary depending on your condition.

The bottom line is that prices can vary widely in big cities and may be higher in remote areas where accessing medical care is a challenge. Having a comprehensive health insurance plan is essential to make sure you’re covered for the costs of medical treatments in Thailand.

Who can apply for medical insurance in Thailand with LUMA?

Medical insurance in Thailand is open to everyone, regardless of nationality. However, the requirements vary depending on the plan you choose.
